Cleaning Grout The EATOILS(TM) Way

Grout can easily discolor with dirt & grime

Ceramic tiles and grout tend to get dirty very quickly and are one of the most challenging cleaning tasks in any facility. The buildup of dirt, grease and grime in grout is very unpleasant to look at because of the drastic color change that alters the appearance of floors and walls. The way most facilities accomplish this task is with brushes and harsh cleaning chemicals. Some of these harsh chemicals, however, will discolor the grout or will erode sections of it.

EATOILS™ SUPERFRESH™ and SUPER FLOOR DEGREASER™ are the safe alternative to harsh chemicals for grout cleaning.  These products can work wonders on grout without the consequences of using of harsh chemicals. These products can easily remove the dirt build-up and other organic materials that typically accumulates in tile grout over time.  In as little as 30 minutes you can  see a dramatic difference.  It's easy to do - just follow these steps: 1) mix the product - usually 2-4 oz. / gallon of warm water will do the trick, 2) wet the floor - soak it with up to 1/2 inch of the solution and allow it to sit for 30 minutes or so, 3) agitate the entire area with a soft bristle brush or power scrubber - and watch the ugly discoloration disappear! 4) then rinse or squeegee the surface to bring the tiles and grout back to 'like new' finish and color!

For heavily discolored areas or high traffic locations you can follow up with a steam vapor cleaner to quickly restore the grout to its original color. The high heat, low moisture and gentle pressure from the steam forces the dirt out of the grout and brings it to the surface where it is easily wiped away or extracted.  There are a number of high end and franchise restaurants that use this approach to clean up the kitchens of restaurants before transferring ownership where the objective is to have a 'brand new' kitchen for the new owner and . . . this is how they do it.

There are some exceptions where grout cleaners are not the solution. If the grout is sealed and the dirt and grime are beneath the sealer, neither EATOILS™ products nor steam will get the dirt out from under the sealing material. So, you will need to strip the seal then use our products to get the grime out, then re-seal.

Also, old, broken grout (where holes and cracks are visible) should not be cleaned with EATOILS™ products. Grout erosion is usually the result of a chemical reaction from the acidic cleaning agent that was previously used. In those cases the grout should be replaced, then cleaned with our EATOILS™ products.

Got Dirty Grout? EATOILS Has The Answer

 Cleaning grout lines can be a very difficult task, particularly when you consider all the material that is usually collected in grout 'valleys'.  As Grout is typically a porous material like cement all sorts of oils, greases, and particles can get trapped in the grout and discolor it easily.  Traditional floor & tile cleaners do a pretty good job on the floor surfaces but they have virtually no effect on the discolored grout and over time the grout lines fill with these materials and can become unsightly.  Harsh chemicals and a lot of elbow grease have been the only answer for cleaning grout and the results have been inconsistent.  Short of getting down on your knees and manually scrubbing the grout, usually with nasty chemicals, there has not been a real alternative for cleaning grout until now.

EATOILS™ SUPERFRESH™ Removes Even The Worst Black Mold Found In Florida

Enclosed areas where moisture can build up can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew.  Particularly in locations where wood and wallboard are exposed, like: 1) under rafters, 2) in damp basement areas, 3) in bathrooms, 4) below open buildings and 5) in attics.

Mold & Mildew can be harmful to you and your family as the spores can cause allergic reactions and illness.  There are two problems that you need to deal with when you are trying to address mold and mildew: 1) removing the infestation effectively (mold and spores), and 2) preventing it from recurring.

Many of the products now in use in washroom urinal drip systems are simply strong odor 'cover up' products that frankly, don't work very well.  Typically they combine the addition of a (hopefully, but not always) pleasant scent to the urinal with a low daily cost.  This can give a false feeling of security to the business operator, as they can 'smell' the system working, however, the ongoing cost of using a 'cover up' product to control odors doesn't actually do anything to remove the source of the problem - urine.

How To Use EATOILS Products With Steam And Vapor Cleaning Systems

There has been a lot of discussion recently about using steam to deep clean grout, tile, and other porous surfaces.  Steam is a highly effective surface cleaner for removing visible grease, however, it doesn't draw out all of the material from deep pores as it's followers and supporters claim - and it can leave a residual grease trail, particularly in high traffic areas.  Lingering odors can also be a problem.

EATOILS™ deep cleaning products actually do remove the organic materials from deep in the pores of all surfaces - and they do a particularly great job at removing deep particles from porous surfaces.  They also remove the sources of odors!

By combining the power of microbial cleaning with 'steam cleaning' or 'vapor cleaning' the results are much more effective.   The microbes and surfactants in EATOILS™ products actually loosen the microscopic food and inorganic particles so the steam or vapor can remove them faster.  They also remove the sources of odors.

We have a number of contractor clients who are hired by large restaurant chains to 'steam clean' their kitchens and bathrooms when they require: 1) a complete overhaul, 2) a refurbishment for a new franchise owner, 3) a dramatic heavy duty clean, or 5) a kitchen or bathroom makeover.  Admittedly, these are the worst conditions for cleaning (usually the build-up is from many years and it is hard to get at all of the areas to clean them).  However, they are ideal for deep steam cleaning.  After years of cleaning these difficult areas our contractor clients have discovered a better way to clean by combining the two cleaning systems.  We have found that these contractors actually insist on using our EATOILS™ heavy duty cleaners together with the steam equipment so they can get the best cleaning result in the shortest time. 

How they do it
Typically, they mix up our cleaner (depending on the job - SUPERFRESH™ for bathrooms, SUPER FLOOR DEGREASER™ for kitchens, or BT200™ for industrial greases ) with hot water (usually at 4 oz/gal) and apply it liberally to the surfaces to be cleaned (usually leave 1/4" of fluid on the floor) and allow it to sit for 30 - 45 minutes or so.  Then, they brush the surfaces with a stiff brush to release the heavy greases and build-up.  Then they follow up with the steam or vapor cleaning system.  It actually takes much less time to clean this way and the results are dramatic!  A bright clean room with no residue and no lingering odors! For example, if you disinfect all surfaces at the beginning of the day and every hour throughout the day in high traffic bathrooms, daycares and hospitals; every other hour in restaurants, mall washrooms, and public venues; three times a day in workplaces, etc. you will probably have a pretty good disinfection system in place for most situations.  Naturally, you would consider increased frequency in a situation where germs are spreading like if the H1N1 begins to spread.

Due to the microbial nature of the SUPERFRESH™ product, you should wash all surfaces with SUPERFRESH™ approximately 10 - 20 minutes after disinfecting to get the 'best of both worlds' - deep cleaning action and disinfection.

Removing skunk odor

Here is one of our most popular topics - How to remove skunk odor from your pets . . . and wherever they have made contact since the skunk encounter!

Skunks have a very strong and persistent odor that they 'spray' as a defence strategy whenever they feel threatened during an encounter. Skunk oil is very hard to remove and it can make both you and your pet very uncomfortable until it is eliminated. Over the years many remedies for skunk spray have been tried. Unfortunately, until now, the results have been unimpressive.
