Combining New Technologies Provides Synergy For Remediation Projects - And Cost Effective Alternatives

For many years the task of in-situ remediation of brownfields has been a difficult one - with cost overruns and ineffective remediation techniques being the most common result.  Oxidizing chemicals have been somewhat successful and bioremediation has been reliable for hydrocarbons, given enough time.

At WorldWare Enterprises Ltd., we have been providing microbes and nutrients for bioremediation and accelerated bioremediation projects for several years and we have had many success stories, particularly with household heating oil spills and the resultant insurance claims.

Recently, some of the contractors who use our products have discovered the synergy of combining remediating methods with new techniques for delivering product directly to the contaminants - and the results have been very impressive.  By combining the advantages of using specialized oxidizing formulas (fast acting degradation of many contaminants plus addition of large amounts of oxygen into the contaminant plume) with the advantages of accelerated bioremediation (complete breakdown of hydrocarbons over time) and these new delivery techniques, they have found the remediation timeline can be dramatically reduced and the cost of the job can be very competitive.  The first clients to try this new approach were those who were disappointed with previous methods (vapor extraction, typical oxidizing approaches, bio-augmentation and nutrient loading techniques) that had not provided the expected results.  When these new approaches were tried and the results were so dramatic and in such a short time, thorough investigations were conducted to ensure that the results were really that good.  Time and again the independent testing confirmed the complete clean-up of the sites.  To date, there have been successes with industrial sites (heavy metals & TPH), former gas stations (TPH and BTEX), hydro facilities (TPH and PCBs), automotive plants (PCVs and TCEs), groundwater and residential spills.

The results have been dramatic - complete clean-up in record time! Furthermore, by combining the approaches the products consumed have been optimized and the contaminant levels have been reduced to well below government standards!  The net results are lower project cost and faster turnaround time!

This has prompted some of these contractors to provide a guarantee for their remediation projects - yes, a guarantee!

As we move forward we are aligning ourselves with these successful contractors to provide a complete solution to remediation of all types of contaminants.

If you know of someone who is currently struggling with a contaminated site and looking for a reasonable alternative treatment we would be pleased to provide a remediation proposal using these new technologies.

Multizorb™ Picks Up The Spill + Safely Absorbs Liquid Contaminants

Multizorb™ is used for emergency response and spill response in all types of applications.  Multizorb™ absorbs up to 8 times more fluid than competitive products and it contains no silica, making it safe for landfill disposal.

Due to the 'quick absorbing' nature of the product it is considered an instant absorbent, making it ideal for quick response in industrial and other accidental spills.  "Usually, by the time you turn around to sweep it up it is fully absorbed", says Ron Porter, an emergency response & HAZMAT trainer who works with the product on a daily basis.

As shown in the attached picture, Multizorb™ is used whenever accidents occur. The product contains a special fire retardant material that prevents the fumes from flammable materials from igniting and causing additional problems for emergency response workers.  Multizorb™ is used by emergency response personnel around the country as a safe and effective spill response absorbent.

Multizorb™ is a cost effective alternative to other absorbent products - 6 bags (120 lbs.) will quickly pick up the contents of a 45 imperial gallon (55 US gallon) drum compared to 30 - 40 bags of clay or 'kitty litter' type products (1500 lbs.).  It passes the environmental TCLP test proving that once the fluid is absorbed into the Multizorb™ it won't leach out!

Once the liquid is picked up with Multizorb™, our EATOILS™ BT200™ can be used to clean up the residual stain on the surface (works well on concrete, asphalt and soil) to bring the site back to its original state.  Both of these products provide cost effective yet environmentally friendly alternatives for clients who wish to be sensitive to environmental concerns while keeping an eye on the bottom line.

For more information about these products please come to our website at www.eatoils.com or call us toll free (in North America) at 866 621 8244.  Our Customer Service Staff is standing by to serve you during business hours 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday through Friday, and our telephone answering system is available 24 hours per day, seven days of the week where you can leave a message.

Using EATOILS™ BT200™ To Remove Oil Stains From Pervious Concrete

One of our customers, Michael Duty of Precision Pressure Washing, in northern Florida, has been using our EATOILS™ BT200™ for removing oil stains from concrete and asphalt for years.  He has found that there is a steady requirement for a contractor who can safely remove unsightly oil stains from all surfaces.  His clients include restaurants, shopping malls, banks, condominium apartments, homeowners, municipalities, waste management companies and companies with hydraulic equipment.  It is not unusual for Michael and his crew to be called out to remove a trail of leaked hydraulic fluid that stretches for over 10 miles through several neighborhoods.

Recently, when he was working on a job for one of his customers, Michael came across a site where pervious concrete* was used.  This product is primarily used in locations where there are rainwater issues and where rapid drainage is required.  Unfortunately, like most other roadway surfaces, oil  and grease stains can still be a problem.  Using BT200™ is an environmentally friendly approach to eliminating oil and grease even in soil and pervious concrete.  It is used extensively around the world for bio-remediating oil spills and for treating these contaminants in-situ - or where it sits - When you are working with soil or pervious concrete the EATOILS™ BT200™ actually bathes the surfaces of the individual pieces of aggregate and sand and removes the oil residue. Then the microbes in the product attach themselves to the oil and grease and break them down into water, carbon dioxide and oxygen.

An initial spraying and brushing in of EATOILS™ BT200™ followed by a pressure washer rinse will remove all free oil and most of the visible stain.  For the residual shadow a re-spray will fade most away over the next week or so.  In difficult situations where the stain is old or excessively dark, several re-sprays a week or so apart may be required.  The combination of time, EATOILS™ BT200™, warm temperatures and nature's rainwater will usually fade an oil stain from concrete in a few days (or 30-45 days for pavement). This product is GREENER-CHOICE APPROVED GREEN.

Without EATOILS™ BT200™ the oil stain will spread and cause environmental damage to the neighboring soil, and it can take many years (usually up to 100 years) for nature to eliminate the contamination.   Hydrocarbons damage the integrity of asphalt or pavement by breaking down the bond between the aggregate and the oil-based binder, resulting in extensive repair costs - if you have paved surfaces that are regularly in contact with oil products you should use EATOILS™ BT200™ as an ongoing part of your maintenance program.

*Pervious Concrete Pavement: An Overview

Pervious concrete pavement is a unique and effective means to address important environmental issues and support green, sustainable growth. By capturing stormwater and allowing it to seep into the ground, porous concrete is instrumental in recharging groundwater, reducing stormwater runoff, and meeting U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) stormwater regulations. In fact, the use of pervious concrete is among the Best Management Practices (BMPs) recommended by the EPA-- and by other agencies and geotechnical engineers across the country-- for the management of stormwater runoff on a regional and local basis. This pavement technology creates more efficient land use by eliminating the need for retention ponds, swales, and other stormwater management devices. In doing so, pervious concrete has the ability to lower overall project costs on a first-cost basis.

In pervious concrete, carefully controlled amounts of water and cementitious materials are used to create a paste that forms a thick coating around aggregate particles. A pervious concrete mixture contains little or no sand, creating a substantial void content. Using sufficient paste to coat and bind the aggregate particles together creates a system of highly permeable, interconnected voids that drains quickly. Typically, between 15% and 25% voids are achieved in the hardened concrete, and flow rates for water through pervious concrete are typically around 480 in./hr (0.34 cm/s, which is 5 gal/ft²/ min or 200 L/m²/min), although they can be much higher. Both the low mortar content and high porosity also reduce strength compared to conventional concrete mixtures, but sufficient strength for many applications is readily achieved.

While pervious concrete can be used for a surprising number of applications, its primary use is in pavement.  Pervious concrete, has also been referred to as porous concrete, permeable concrete, no-fines concrete, gap-graded concrete, and enhanced-porosity concrete.

Clean Up Mold + Mildew With EATOILS™ BT200™

We Have talked here before about mold and mildew and how to remove it from a variety of surfaces with EATOILS™ products.  Well, here's a testimonial from  a friend of mine who was working on his bathroom - in particular, his bathtub sliding glass doors and he found our BT200™ does wonders on mold & mildew build-up:

"Hi Charles, Jon here, to tell you that BT200™ rocks at cleaning mold and mildew off my tub sliding doors!  As you know, we are re-doing our bathroom after living in the house for ten years.  The bathroom has always had a mold & mildew problem as we all take long showers and the ceiling exhaust fan just doesn't get rid of all the moisture - particularly along the base of the shower doors.  Last week I took off the glass sliding doors to install the new tub surround and the amount of mold and mildew build-up was, according to my wife Debb, disgusting!  I took the door assembly off and soaked everything in a solution of BT200™ (2 oz per gallon) for 30 minutes or so.  When I went back to look at it, the mold and mildew just wiped away - without even brushing!  I was able to clean deep down into the tracks, around the glass seals, and on all the surfaces without any difficulty.  As a result, it looks great again and I plan to put it back into the tub this afternoon.

Another thing I found that you might want to share with your clients is that BT200™ does a great job at removing the glue and caulking from the installation of the new tub surround.  I was able to spray a 10% solution directly on the smudges and they wiped right off!

It also works great on the glue in the kitchen from the new vinyl floor tiles that I installed last week.  It took off all the excess glue in seconds!

I certainly am glad I have your EATOILS™ BT200™ - it saved me a whole lot of trouble on these jobs!"

Well, there you have it - another testimonial from a happy client who discovered the benefits of EATOILS™ BT200™. This product is GREENER-CHOICE APPROVED GREEN.

EATOILS SUPERSEP Eliminates Sugar Snake in Soda Fountains

What is a sugar snake?  A sugar snake is a phenomenon that can occur in a soda fountain drain in a busy restaurant or bar.  When drinks are poured in a soda fountain there is always a small amount of overflow that goes down the drain.  As the drain is constantly receiving a dripping flow of sugary soda drink residue, there is a constant food source for bacteria living in the drain - the sugar.  Colonies of sugar eating bacteria gather to digest the sugar and eventually they form a solid cane or 'snake' appearance inside the drainline (something like a colony of coral would do in a coral reef, only they have nowhere to grow but within the confines of the drainline).  This is called a sugar snake.  It is not made of sugar, but it looks like sugar - so it was always thought to be a column of sugar, hence, the name - sugar snake.  Over time, the sugar snake grows large enough to hinder the flow of waste to the sanitary drain and it can disrupt the function of the fountain drain system.  When this happens the sugar snake needs to be removed - usually with a pair of needle nose pliers.  Typical drain openers don't work on this type of problem.

At WorldWare Enterprises Ltd. we have developed a range of products using beneficial microbes that outperform traditional products and methods at the jobs that they do.  We have products for cleaning, deodorizing, degreasing, and a multitude of applications.

Our EATOILS™ SUPERSEP™ is a good example of this type of product.  SUPERSEP™ is exceptionally good at breaking up the 'sugar snake' and keeping the drainline running clear.  A daily dose of 4 ounces of SUPERSEP™ poured down the drain at night will clear up and prevent sugar snakes in soda fountains.

This product is also ideal for maintaining other drains and grease traps in these facilities as the drains typically clog with organic materials and the microbes in our products attack and digest these organic materials and keep the lines running free.

We work with municipalities and water utilities with their waste water treatment plants and to address blockages in sewer lines, caused by food facilities and restaurants.  Our products don't harm pipes or waste water systems and they work together with the microbes used in the waste water treatment facilities.  Enforcement and inspection staff at the utilities and municipalities suggest the restaurants and food processors use our EATOILS™ products to address and clear up any problems they may have with organic materials. All of our EATOILS™ products are GREENER-CHOICE™ APPROVED GREEN.
